For a while there, given the early onset of holiday ad blitzes, it might have seemed possible for any adult so inclined to ride out the season behind a gruff, ‘these holidays are just a merchandising gimmick’ attitude. But the undertones of goodwill and generosity, supercharged by relentless resurfacing of pangs of nostalgia from seasons past, have once again won out. And for the children—well, let’s just say they’ve been on their best behavior:
