“Hot” Trend Report Sparks Costa Mesa Home Design Ideas

It’s always a good idea for local homeowners who are in the planning stages for some serious property updating to check into some of the new Costa Mesa home design trends that have recently surfaced. It’s not that they are likely to mindlessly follow the newest and greatest trends—few homeowners actually make expensive decisions based on those. It’s more likely that one of the newer creative ideas could spark a direction that hadn’t been considered before. After all, to qualify as one of the “most popular” trends it must have captured more imaginations than others.

Identifying design trends that are more than just promos for their creators is easier said than done, though—but home improvement site houzz.com came up with what looks like a valid methodology. Their new “2023 Houzz Emerging Summer Trends report” is the result.

It first designates nine Key Areas that a chosen group of designers and home remodeling professionals singled out for a trend analysis—areas like “New Destinations” (such as basements and rooftops), “Kitchens” (industrial style or entertainer’s), “Overhead Design” (tongue-and-groove, wallpapered, or high-gloss), etc. The individual components were then compared via their social media traffic counts, with the greatest percentages of growth in online query numbers earning top marks as emerging trendsetters. The most impressive results belonged to—

  • Basement golf simulator (up 1,905%)
  • Rooftop terrace (up 1,555%)
  • Aging-in-place bathroom (up 141%-barely edging out ‘Handicap-accessible bathrooms’ at 137%)
  • Kitchen track lighting (203% just beating ‘Pull-down faucets’)
  • Walk-in kitchen pantry (up 2,636%)
  • Living room divider (up 446%)
  • High-gloss ceiling (up 816%)
  • Spanish Colonial living room (up 1,470%)
  • Small screened-in porch ideas (up 522%)

Area homeowners who are in the planning stages for their own remodeling projects may want to make it a point to explore some of these newly popular design directions—some of which can thank technological advances for moving price points within reach. Even for those who aren’t planning on listing their Costa Mesa property anytime soon, some of these ‘hot’ trends may result in improvements that not only make their home a more appealing place to live in but also improve its later market value. But before you go installing that basement golf simulator, you can always call us for the latest up-to-date fact check on its re-marketability in our Costa Mesa market!
